Root Canal Treatment

What is a root canal?

Root canal treatment removes the diseased inner pulp tissue of a tooth in order to stop painful inflammation and prevent a dental abscess. Without endodontic treatment, diseased teeth would need to be extracted. Root canal treatment stop the disease process and prevents infection so that the tooth can continue to provide function throughout life.

Don’t Suffer From Tooth Pain Any Longer!

Pain in your tooth or gums may be a symptom of infected pulp. Great River Endodontics can perform a Root Canal to treat the infected pulp, relieve pain, and save your natural teeth!

Call Us Today!

Most root canal treatments are done with local anesthetics just as would be provided at your dentist’s office for a filling or crown. A rubber dam is placed around the tooth that acts as a surgical barrier to prevent saliva from contaminating the root canal with bacteria and to prevent disinfecting solutions from contact with the mouth. A small opening is made on the chewing surface of the tooth or crown to gain access to the root canal spaces. Small instruments are navigated to the tips of the roots and then used to enlarge, disinfect, and clean the roots. Once the roots are clean inside, they are filled with a rubber material that will stay permanently inside the roots to prevent recontamination.

Once the root canal is treated, the tooth needs to be restored by your general dentist. Sometimes this restoration is filling, and sometimes it is a crown (porcelain cap).

What happens after treatment?

When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.

How much will a root canal cost?

The cost associated with root canals can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

I was nervous, and had heard stories about how much root canals hurt/ache. Everything about the experience was better than I expected. Obviously there were other things I would have preferred to experience - but since I needed the root canal - your practice, and the excellent service made some of the hurt go away. Thank you for fixing my tooth!

Although no one looks forward to a root canal, I felt very comfortable because of the staff. From the smiling face behind the desk as soon as you walk in, to each hygienist and doctor, it was a pleasant atmosphere to be in.

This was my first root canal and I heard all the horror stories on how bad a root canal is. Well as far as dental procedures go my root canal was a piece of cake. I had no pain or ill effects after the procedure. I would definitely recommend you guys for dental work.

it was an unbelievable experience. i told my friends it was the best time i'd had in months. the staff were cheerful, helpful and prompt. the doctor had skills, confidence and an attitude perfectly matched for the task. he'd obviously mastered his tools and techniques -- really, an incredible experience. i'd been suffering with an infected tooth for months which effected every waking moment and i'm happy to have all that behind me.

Patient Review By Janna C

I could not be more pleased. I had been suffering with chronic pain for almost three years. No one could determine the cause. When everything became acute and the diagnosis was finally determined my dentist was able to get an appointment at Great River Endodontics within 2 hours. I was admitted within minutes and my suffering relieved within minutes. I immediately knew I was in professional compassionate care. Believe it or not I felt totally relaxed through the entire procedure. The fee was more than reasonable and I left with a lopsided (Novocain) grin on my face. I cannot thank them enough for giving me back my peace of mind and a painless existence. Thank You Dr. Tucker and wonderful staff!
